A beautiful Land that once belonged to the local Indigenous carries a derogatory name. Such names desensitize the Murdered & Missing Indigenous Woman (#MMIW) in the Americas. We need to stop the social structure that shamed and devalues us #Indigenous Blooded females! We are still here and need to do better for the future generations! 

For those who are not aware Squaw is defined as:

"The English word squaw is an ethnic and sexual slur, historically used for Indigenous North American women. Contemporary use of the term, especially by non-Natives, is considered offensive, derogatory, misogynist, and #racist."

Woman who lived on the water stayed with the young children while the males went off to hunt. This is where the name Squaw came from when pertaining to the Imperial County Squaw Lake. 

So please help sign this petition and ask your reps to respect & honor the #Indigenous ancestors of this land. The ideal name would be one the local tribe decides on.
