Stricter punishment for wildlife crimes
The Issue
If there is a wildlife crime in India, the maximum punishment for it is only imprisonment which may extent to five years or fine or both. (Indian Penal Code, 1860: Section 428 and Section 429 reads that killing, poaching, maiming, poisoning or torturing an animal is a cognizable offence and immediately FIR must be lodged in area police station. The punishment for such act is rigorous imprisonment which may extent to five years or fine or both.)
You all know how some people fed a pregnant wildlife elephant in Kerala a fruit stuffed with firecracker which exploded in her mouth due to which she died.
The matter is being investigated and soon criminals will be caught.
Perhaps the punishment here is very less because the cost of the life of a wild animal cannot be repaid by a few amount of money or just by five years of imprisonment or both.
We request Government of India, to amend wildlife punishment law and make it strict so that the crime of killing wild animals is also similar to killing human beings.
So, that the poachers get fear and the number of wildlife crimes is reduced and wild animals can live happily and in their habitat.
It’s time for a change, before it gets too late. It’s time to make this world a better place for not just humans, but all the living creatures.
Just as Mahatma Gandhi once said , "The greatness of a nation can be judged by the way it treats its animals."
We as humans need to rise against animal cruelty. It is our responsibility.
