13 US states have decided to declare state dog breeds and I think it’s about time that Indiana does too! I believe that our state dog should be the German shepherd. The German shepherd is the most popular dog breed in Indiana and they are known for being very loyal and great companions. German shepherds would represent Indiana very well because they are known for being a popular breed and very loyal to their owners. Often forming a very strong bond that can never be broken. Many of the other states around Indiana have state dogs, including Tennessee and Ohio. None of the states however, have declared the German shepherd as their state dog. The German shepherd is a very common breed to own, especially here in Indiana! There are at least 3 just in my neighborhood alone, I know for certain that many of us would love to have the loyal, powerful, eager to please German shepherd as our state breed. I hope that at some point in the future, every state will have their own unique state dog that represents their state just as well as the German shepherd represents the state of Indiana.
