Currently, Indiana is one of four states that lacks an official state animal.  However, we can change that.  The Indiana Bat is the right animal for the job for several reasons.  

First of all, the Indiana Bat is one of the only animals that has never left the endangered species list.  By making it the Indiana state animal, people will learn more about its condition and can take steps to get it off the endangered species list.  

Secondly, the Indiana Bat's #1 killer is a disease called White Nose Syndrome (WNS).  Once again, making the Indiana Bat the state animal will help raise awareness about WNS and help put an end to it.  

Another reason is that the Indiana Bat is the only animal that is named after the great state of Indiana.  Let's take some pride in that, and give it a place of honor as the Indiana state animal!  

Finally, making the Indiana Bat the state animal is a win-win situation.  You see, the bats benefit people by eating crop-destroying insects, and having a state animal could help boost Indiana's economy through tourism.  People will want to learn more about the new state animal, and they can travel to Indiana and visit the state's numerous caverns to accomplish this.
