Open Stage Stop Campground

The Issue

Stage Stop Campground, which is located in Harrison/Crawford Indiana State Forestry, was closed for the 2013 season. Before its closure, this public space offered primitive and youth camping. A canoe access ramp was also available on the Blue River.

Stage Stop has been part of growing up for many local families for as long as we can remember. At virtually no cost to the state, it has always been available for swimming, canoe access, and family outings. Generations of voters miss it badly.

We the undersigned are petitioning the Indiana Department of Natural Resources to:

1. Open Stage Stop to affordable no-frills camping. Camping rates have become unaffordable for many of us in the last few years in order to provide showers, electricity, and hookups at every site. These amenities are not necessary or requested by the large segment of people who would be willing to spend $8-$10 for a peaceful night of camping along this ideal river front site.

2. Open Stage Stop to day use all year. The other river access points that are part of this public domain do not have water or restrooms.

Stage Stop is more than just a campground. The public request the State reopen this location.
