Graham Elementary Community started this petition to Indian Prarie School District

As you may know, Indian Prairie School District 204 is in the process of rezoning school boundaries. As highly vested stakeholders in the quality and standing of our school district, the Graham Elementary School community has paid close attention to all potential plans and concepts that have been discussed by the 204 School Board.  Some of these proposed rezoning plans include closing Graham Elementary.  In some concepts, these plans even include separating the Graham student body by sending students in the High Meadow subdivision to Kendall Elementary School, and sending students in the River Run subdivision students to Builta Elementary School.

Given the significant disruption the closure of Graham would bring (not only the current generation of Graham children, but countless future generations of children), we are extremely concerned by the concepts being brought forward by the School Board.  Not only would the closure of Graham mean that the district would lose a school that has a long-standing status as a top elementary school in Naperville, but this drastic measure would also destroy the thriving community that has developed around Graham in the High Meadow and River Run subdivisions.

Of further concern is the long-term effect school closures will have on the overcrowding of schools within District 204.  As things stand today, many schools in the district are already at, or are nearing, capacity.  Moreover, enrollment at Graham, and other schools, continues to climb as young families are moving to Naperville in record numbers:

In the last 13 months, 41 homes in the River Run subdivision have sold to new owners, representing 10% turnover

In the last 13 months, 40 homes in the High Meadow subdivision have sold to new owners, representing 6% turnover.

From the 2020 to 2021 school years, Graham has seen a 30% increase in student enrollment.

With both the growth in the number of young families we are seeing in established District 204 communities, and the many new housing developments being built within 204, it is clear that this growth in enrollment will not be limited to Graham in the coming years.  Given this growth, the closure of schools within District 204 will serve only to put gasoline on the proverbial fire that is District 204’s overcrowding problem. This can only serve to damage the quality of education that District 204 is able to provide our children.

In short, we find the proposals from the IPSD 204 school board to be in direct conflict with our community-wide interest in maintaining IPSD 204’s status as one of the top school districts in the country. Graham is a thriving community, and a place our children deserve to continue to call home.

SHARE, SHARE, SHARE this with family, friends, neighbors, grandparents and anyone else with a vested interest in these children’s education and emotional well being!  We need as many signatures as we can to show the IPSD 204 school board and community just how much we need to Save Our Nest!
