Increase Worth of Overloaded Physics Project for Fair Assessment

Increase Worth of Overloaded Physics Project for Fair Assessment
The Issue
Just last week, I was up until 2 a.m., examining my notes, practicing problems, scouring through videos, and trying to master every intricate concept of physics for our looming test. Unfortunately, my efforts seemed in vain when I received the exam, only to find half of the subjects I diligently studied were not even included. It was a heartbreaking result for someone who once found joy in discovering how the world works and relished the challenge of problem-solving.
Physics was once my passion. However, the way the syllabus is currently structured—with an overload of content, fewer evaluation opportunities, and under-valued projects—has drained away much of my enthusiasm. This year, we have to cover an additional unit compared to last year's curriculum, yet we only have three tests compared to their four. This imbalance means a single test carries more weight and can dramatically impact our grades, despite excluding areas we have studied extensively.
Moreover, the project that we invest so much time and effort into, enriching it with additional content, remains stuck at last year's value of 44 points. These unfair discrepancies are impacting not just me, but numerous students who are equally passionate about the subject—a subject we signed up for, hoping to enjoy it and excel, not lose ourselves in a mire of stress and frustration.
It's time to reassess the academic expectations and evaluation techniques in the physics curriculum. It's not just about making the grading system fair—it's about nurturing our curiosity, allowing us to explore, understand, and appreciate the fascinating world of physics, without punishing us for our curiosity. Please sign this petition to show your support for a fairer assessment of our dedicated work and commitment to learning. Let's let our effort count!
