Increase Ward Hill Traffic Enforcement and Safety Measures in our Neighborhood

Increase Ward Hill Traffic Enforcement and Safety Measures in our Neighborhood

The Issue

Our neighborhoods should be safe, peaceful, and free of reckless driving. However, current conditions indicate a serious lack of enforcement which threatens the safety of community members. This petition calls for an increase in driving speed enforcement within our area, to deter speeding and potentially life-threatening incidents.

In the last two years alone, I have personally witnessed the death of neighborhood cats due to reckless and careless drivers throughout the Ward Hill industrial park area, specifically. With so many of us using these same streets to enjoy walking with our pets and children, it is only a matter of time before there is a serious accident to human life as well.

Appropriate signage such as speed limits, speed warnings, and 'slow down' signs could contribute to improved road safety. Furthermore, implementation of physical deterrents like speed bumps can be an effective method to regulate vehicle speed. Regular law enforcement presence is also necessary to enforce these rules, especially during peak hours and at night. It's noted that speed-induced accidents account for approximately 26% of all traffic fatalities worldwide, according to the World Health Organization. There are also several new developments being built in our neighborhood that will increase foot traffic and the risk to both humans and domestic and wild animals.

Therefore, rectifying this situation is not only beneficial for our community but also aligns with larger, global road safety goals. Having these safety measures in place would create a safer environment for everyone. Act now and sign this petition to appeal to our city council to prioritize road safety in our neighborhood.
