Walking through big crosswalks in massive intersections is a hard race to catch up to, especially in such a short amount of time when you're minding your safety and the vehicles around you. This petition specifically advocates for increasing pedestrian safety including the elderly and those with disabilities, in a community filled with impatient and reckless drivers. By extending the duration of walking signals, intersections will become a safer public space and communities will feel more secure. There are specific areas in our communities with walking times that are 15-30 seconds, including Limonite Avenue which is arguably one of the busiest intersections with fast-moving vehicles. Raising the walking time from 5-10 more seconds doesn’t seem like much, but it will cause pedestrians at ease when crossing.
