It was -13°F with a windchill at -25°F on Tue, Feb 18. Communities around us had their schools delayed by 2 hours, yet ours was on schedule. This was hard on everyone, from parents trying to get vehicles started to students shivering while waiting for a bus. This is not an isolated incident; there have been no snow days this school year and only one virtual day. We as parents wondered why our school system is being so strict, exposing our children and community members to such harsh conditions without necessary relief. 

According to the National Weather Service, frostbite can occur within 30 minutes in such freezing temperatures. This is a serious safety concern that requires immediate attention. We are calling for our school system to review and increase the minimum temperature for school delays in the interest of student safety and comfort. This is not about convenience, it is about the well-being of our children.

It is imperative that our request is heard and acted upon. We are asking for the school system to prioritize safety and well-being over rigid policies. Sign our petition to put the safety and health of our children first.
