Increase the cap on medical FSAs

The Issue

My family, like many others, is navigating the escalating costs of healthcare. As a family of seven, only four are still covered under my health insurance, our medical expenses are frighteningly high. This is not just our reality, but a shared burden among countless families across the country.

One potential relief is through Flexible Spending Accounts (FSAs), which allow individuals to save pre-tax dollars for medical expenses. Currently, the cap on medical FSAs is too low to provide significant assistance. For larger families or those with chronic health conditions, the existing limit falls short of covering annual costs, leaving families to shoulder substantial out-of-pocket expenses.

The current limit, set at $3,050 as of 2023, does not reflect the rising costs of healthcare. For context, the average American family of four spends approximately $12,000 annually on out-of-pocket healthcare expenses, excluding insurance premiums. This shows a glaring disparity between the FSA cap and actual expenses, particularly for uninsured families or those dealing with significant medical issues.

By increasing the FSA cap, we would provide families with much-needed financial relief and empower them to take better charge of their medical needs. This change would directly impact families like mine, offering a form of financial respite in an otherwise burdensome system.

I urge policy makers to consider the real-life implications of the current FSA limitations and adjust the cap to better reflect today’s healthcare landscape. Reforming this cap would be a step towards making healthcare more affordable and accessible for millions of American families. Join me in calling for an increase to the medical FSA cap, offering hope and practical support to families in need.

Please sign this petition to push for legislative change that will truly alleviate the healthcare financial burden for many families.
