Increase Support for Monroe County's Animal Control Officer and Improve Animal Welfare Laws

The Issue

My family and I rescued a baby kitten that was thrown into the road last winter. She was scared, alone, and recoiled from our touch due to fear of hurt. Now, she knows love and no longer fears us. This personal experience opened my eyes to the plight of countless animals in Monroe County who are abused, abandoned, or neglected every day.

Our only Animal Control Officer for the entire county is overwhelmed with work. In just seven months, he has brought over 500 animals to the intake facility - this number doesn't even include abuse/neglect cases that are investigated separately. These numbers reflect a heartbreaking reality; our shelters are overflowing with animals in need and our officer is stretched beyond his limits.

Monroe County needs to set an example for Tennessee by enforcing new laws that protect these innocent lives. Our shelters including every nonprofit 504 shelter require more support than they currently receive.

We must act now not only for these voiceless creatures but also for those who tirelessly work towards their welfare despite limited resources. We need increased funding and manpower dedicated to animal control services in Monroe County as well as stronger laws against animal abuse or neglect.

Let's stand together as a community committed to protecting all its members - human or otherwise - by providing adequate support for our Animal Control Officer while pushing for improved local legislation on animal welfare.

Please sign this petition if you believe in a safer future where no pet cries out from behind wire cages on concrete slabs all alone; where each one knows love instead of fear; where we can proudly say we did everything we could to help them.
