I am a resident of Santa Barbara, CA, and like many others, I often find myself walking home after late classes. The lack of sufficient street lighting has made these walks home feel unsafe and intimidating. This is not just my personal experience; many residents share the same concerns about our town's poorly lit streets.

According to the National Safety Council (NSC), well-lit neighborhoods can reduce crime rates by up to 20%. Furthermore, the Federal Highway Administration (FHWA) states that Adequate intersection lighting can help reduce nighttime pedestrian-injury crashes by 42 percent. 

Santa Barbara deserves better. We deserve to feel safe in our own town at all hours of the day or night. By increasing street lighting in Santa Barbara, we can create a safer environment for all residents who commute during late hours.
