Increase SSI benefits and food stamps for all
The Issue
I am one of the many individuals struggling to live on less than $1,000 a month through SSI checks, and only $100 in food stamps. This amount is insufficient to pay my bills, buy groceries, and take care of my pets. With rising living costs, countless others and I find ourselves trapped, unable to seek employment or improve our financial circumstances. It feels unfair, and we urgently need change.
The reality is harsh; food stamps are meant to provide assistance, yet $100 barely scratches the surface of what is needed to feed our families and ourselves. Furthermore, the current SSI and disability benefits fall short in addressing the cost of living increases that affect everyone, regardless of race or specific disabilities. Simply put, we are asking for fairness, for an increase that would allow us to live with dignity.
To address this urgent crisis, I propose that the government raises SSI and disability benefits to $2,000 a month for all eligible individuals. In addition, increase food stamp allocations to $300 monthly per person. This adjustment is critical for our survival and well-being, given that the cost of living continues to skyrocket while our benefits remain stagnant.
The current system confines recipients of SSI and disability benefits to a cycle of poverty, leaving many feeling hopeless and unable to contribute constructively to society. Increasing the benefits as proposed would provide us with the security to pay for essential needs, including housing, healthcare, and food, thereby improving our quality of life significantly.
The call for increased benefits is not just for me but for every individual struggling under the same circumstances. It's a plea for justice and humanity—to ensure that nobody has to choose between paying a bill or buying groceries. Let's push for this change and share this with lawmakers so they can see the real struggles individuals like us face daily.
By signing this petition, you can help us advocate for a system that better supports the basic needs of every SIS and disability recipient. Let's unite to make this a reality.
