My uncle was taken from us by leukodystrophy. This terrifying disease, though rare, looms over my family and myself, casting a shadow of uncertainty and fear. People and families affected by the various forms of leukodystrophies know the pain and importantly, the lack of research being conducted. Despite the urgent need, leukodystrophies remain drastically under-researched.

Given that there are roughly 1 in 40,000 people in the US affected by this disease, the current state of scientific research is inadequate. We need to shine a light on the pain of those suffering from these terminal illnesses, and inspire action that might lead to a cure to this currently fatal disease.

For all those who suffer from this condition, and for those who live in fear of its potential manifestation, we are advocating for a change. We're calling for increased scientific research and development focused on all types of leukodystrophies. This request is more than a demand for justice, or a cry for help: it's a plea for lives, for hope, for a future free of the shadow of leukodystrophy.
