Increase recess time for students at Collinswood Language Academy

Increase recess time for students at Collinswood Language Academy
The Issue
As a parent of two children currently attending Collinswood Language Academy, a prestigious dual-language (Spanish and English) immersion school, I have great appreciation for the high academic standards and the tremendous value that this institution offers. However, I am deeply concerned about the limited amount of recess time allowed for students. I strongly believe that increasing recess time would not only benefit my children but all students at Collinswood.
Recent studies have shown that recess is an essential part of a child's school day, providing vital opportunities for physical activity, social interaction, and cognitive development. According to a report by the American Academy of Pediatrics, recess is crucial for children to develop social skills and to improve attention and performance in the classroom. Currently, many schools, including Collinswood, do not offer sufficient recess time to meet these needs.
Increased recess time can lead to numerous benefits: students return to the classroom more focused, behave better, and can absorb lessons more effectively. Recess also offers a chance for kids to engage in unstructured play, which is vital for creativity, problem-solving, and emotional development.
Our children at Collinswood Language Academy, who are engaged in a rigorous curriculum balancing dual languages, deserve more time to relax and rejuvenate their minds. Our goal is to advocate for more recess on a daily basis.
I urge fellow parents, educators, and the Collinswood administration to consider the overwhelming evidence supporting the benefits of increased recess time. Let's work together to create a more balanced, healthy, and fulfilling school day for our children.
Sign this petition to support the initiative for more recess time at Collinswood Language Academy, benefitting current and future students, and paving the way for a happier, healthier learning environment.
