As a regular commuter on Transport NSW trains, I have often noticed situations that pose a potential threat to passenger safety. Many individuals possessing knives, consuming alcohol and drugs have been sighted on these trains in urban New South Wales, particularly Wollongong and surrounding suburbs. This has sparked a fear and insecurities amongst us, the regular users of these public transportation services.

In an effort to combat this issue and provide a safer environment for all passengers, we urge an increase in police presence on Transport NSW trains immediately. The presence of law enforcement is crucial to discourage such potentially harmful activities and provide a sense of security to passengers.

Data gathered from the Parliamentary Budget Office shows that crimes on public transport in NSW have been increasing, with an alarming rate of assaults and robberies occurring on or near train stations (source: PBO NSW, 2019 report). In 2018-19, over 2,400 assaults were reported along rail corridors in NSW, highlighting the urgent need for increased security measures.

We strongly believe that the increase in police presence will not only deter involved individuals from their destructive activities but also promote a peaceful and worry-free travel environment for all. I appeal to you, fellow commuters and citizens concerned about our safety, to support this cause and call for enhanced police visibility on our Transport NSW trains.
