This issue should not be one of political polarization. This is a safety issue and not a political one. The recent increase in crime has made the people of Burlington VT scared for their safety in their homes, in their neighborhoods, and in downtown. Burlington crime rate has increased by 39% from 2021 to 2022. (Burlington Crime Data) The people need more police patrols and on duty officers to control and maintain the violent crime and drug problems our city has.

Along with more police presence more money should be allocated to the police for better training, education, and de-escalating techniques to equip them with social worker like tools to better serve our community. The Burlington Police department would be responsible for choosing training based on their needs. 

If we do not make a change now our once beautiful city, Burlington VT, will go into complete social and economic downfall.
