The Issue

I am a former staff member at the London Ambulance Service based at Newham Dockside, and I left due to inadequate compensation for the essential and challenging work we perform. Yet, I still deeply care about my colleagues and friends who continue to work there tirelessly to save lives. It's heartbreaking to see them struggling financially due to unfair pay disparity.

Recently, the organisation decided to relocate offices, which places the Newham Dockside staff outside the High Cost Area Supplement (HCAS) zone, leading to substantial pay cuts. While their counterparts at the Waterloo office are remunerated better and cover less demanding areas, Newham Dockside staff find themselves working in some of London's busiest sectors, all while facing an annual pay cut of up to £1,952, depending on role. Emergency Resource Dispatchers, in particular, carry a heavy load and deserve equitable compensation.

This discrepancy not only undermines the efforts of those who are at the frontline of emergency response but also affects morale and retention of skilled employees, which could potentially compromise the quality of emergency services provided to the community.

A fair pay structure should be implemented immediately, keeping in mind the different challenges and workloads each office faces instead of a blanket, location-based allowance withdrawal. This could include re-evaluating the HCAS boundaries, exploring other forms of allowances that reflect workload intensity, or restructuring roles to accommodate for the increased difficulty and responsibility carried by Newham Dockside staff.

I urge the London Ambulance Service management, greater governmental bodies, and relevant authorities to address this injustice and ensure that all staff are paid fairly for the invaluable service they provide to London.

Please sign this petition to help secure fair pay for the Newham Dockside ambulance staff and support the consistent quality of services they deliver to all Londoners. Together, let's push for necessary changes and show that we value and support our emergency responders who are vital to the safety and wellbeing of our community.
