Increase Parking Facilities at Paterson Reserve, Quakers Hill Local Sports Field
The issue
I am a resident of Quakers Hill, NSW, Australia and the lack of sufficient parking facilities at our local sports field has been a matter of concern for many in our community. This issue is not only inconvenient but also poses safety risks to children and people with disabilities who frequent the area for sporting activities and 2 local schools. Mary Immaculate Primary School and Barnier Primary School.
Our local sports field is a hub for community engagement, hosting numerous games and events throughout the year. With over 900 members we have over 500 rate payer households within the soccer club alone. This does not account for the other multi uses of the park including Park Run, Tennis, Cricket, Oztag, Netball and Free Dog park that all utilise this parking on any weekend throughout the year. However, due to inadequate parking facilities, visitors often resort to parking on nearby streets. This not only congests residential areas but also creates potential hazards for pedestrians - particularly children and individuals with mobility challenges.
We are finding disabled parking is a major problem with visitors resorting to parking in these allocated spots without permit forcing our wheelchair bound members into the local streets with a challenge to enter the park with no accessible paths except the driveway into the reserve.
According to data from Transport NSW (2019), pedestrian accidents are more likely in areas where vehicles are parked irregularly or illegally. The risk increases when these areas are frequented by vulnerable groups such as children or people with disabilities.
By increasing parking facilities at the local sports field, we can ensure safer access for all members of our community while promoting active participation in local sporting events. We urge the relevant authorities to consider this petition seriously and take immediate action towards improving parking infrastructure at Quakers Hill Local Sports Field.
