Our Community. Our Safety. Our Voice.

As residents of our cherished Avalon community, the safety of our families and neighbours is a top priority. We value the peaceful, family-oriented community in Avalon, and we want to ensure it remains a safe place for everyone.

Unfortunately, Avalon has experienced an increase in attempted vehicle vandalism and property damage, with three incidents reported in our community this week alone. These incidents are understandably creating concern among residents and a growing desire for greater preventative policing.

We appreciate the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) presence along Highway 6 for traffic and speed enforcement. However, given the recent incidents, we respectfully ask that greater attention also be directed toward Avalon’s entrance and exit points, residential streets, and other areas of concern, particularly through increased nighttime patrols.

We respectfully request:

• Increased OPP patrols in Avalon, particularly during overnight hours.
• Greater visibility at Avalon entrance and exit points to help deter suspicious activity and property crime.
• Community engagement with residents and local OPP representatives to discuss emerging safety concerns.
• A review of vulnerable areas within Avalon and opportunities for preventative measures, including lighting, surveillance, and other deterrents.
• Ongoing communication with residents regarding community safety concerns and available resources.

This petition is not about pointing fingers, it is about prevention, partnership, and peace of mind.

We recognize that police resources are limited and appreciate the work of our officers. Our request is simply that the recent incidents in Avalon receive appropriate attention and that preventative patrols be considered before isolated incidents become a larger problem.

As residents, we all have a role to play in keeping our community safe. By working together with the OPP and our municipal representatives, we can strengthen community awareness, deter crime, and ensure families feel safe in their own neighbourhood.

Our homes are more than properties. Our neighbourhood is more than streets. Avalon is our community and keeping it safe is everyone’s responsibility.

We respectfully ask Ward Councillor Dan Lawrence, Mayor Shelley Ann Bentley, and the appropriate OPP representatives to hear the concerns of Avalon residents and work with us toward increased police visibility and preventative measures.

Together, we can make Avalon safer for every family, resident, and neighbour.
