Increase Mother and Child Parking at the Town Hall Car Park and Guarantee Resident Spaces

The Issue

I am a resident in Crawley, a place that has, in many ways, become increasingly difficult to live in due to the lack of parking spaces at the Town Hall Car Park. As residents, we don't just live here, we are an integral part of the community and yet, we are compelled to pay to park where we reside. To make matters worse, many of the spaces within this facility have been designated to two companies who, ironically, underutilize these spots. This leaves us navigating through limited, tightly packed spaces that make it nearly impossible to safely and comfortably get our children out of the cars.

The current situation is not only inconvenient, it's unsafe and discourages residents, particularly mothers like me who require more space for kids. Also, it needs to be addressed that residents should not be paying to park in a space that should fundamentally be theirs by right of residence.

According to Department for Transport, there were 38.7 million licensed vehicles in the UK as of September 2020 and the number of parking spaces has not kept up with this growth. This is a nationwide issue and we in Crawley are feeling its impacts n home ground.

We, therefore, appeal to the Crawley Borough Council to increase the number of allocated parking spaces for both residents and child protection in the Town Hall Car Park. Implementing these measures will respectively protect the rights of residents, ensure the safety of our children, and substantially improve our quality of life here in Crawley. Let's reclaim our town's spaces, starting with the Town Hall Car Park. Sign this petition and let your voice be heard!
