With the skyrocketing prices of bills, gas, food, and housing the West Virginia minimum wage of $8.75 is no longer enough for the people to survive off of as it once was. As of February 13th of 2023, the price for a low-grade gas was $3.40 per gallon. Meanwhile in February 2019, it was $2.39 per gallon. Friday June 27th of 2025 gas was $3.17. This was in Jefferson country and Berkeley, West Virginia. Furthermore, if one was to buy a dozen eggs on February 13, 2023 it would be $2.83 for a dozen eggs but in February of 2019 a dozen eggs only cost $1.50. Further noted, in Virginia and Maryland- they have the SAME pricing for food, gas places, and housing as West Virginia does. But Maryland minimum wage is $15 an hour and Virginia is $12.41. I petition West Virginia raises their minimum wage to raise at least $12 an hour.
