Increase mental health resources for NYC public schools

The Issue

“Stress is an issue where virtually everyone has experienced or is currently experiencing. In New York City, the stress that public schools students face is astounding. From keeping up with schoolwork to attending extracurriculars and internships, there’s no doubt that we need all the resources we could get. About 40% of New York City public high school students reported feeling persistently sad or hopeless, and the concerningly high percentage of 70% of high schools which fail to address this report just goes to show how undermined this issue is. For many students, school is the safest place to seek out these resources, and they should be accommodated accordingly. It’s incredibly obvious that poor mental health leads to poor academic performance. New York City high school students deserve more priority for our mental health, so that we can perform our very best and feel the most confident for future endeavors. LaGuardia deserves more resources and funding for its guidance department to support the 2000+ student population.”
