The Issue

Growing up, I faced numerous challenges related to mental health, struggling to find the help and support I desperately needed. Countless individuals across California are facing similar struggles today, often finding themselves without adequate access to critical mental health services when they need them most. It is imperative that we address the mental health crisis by increasing funding and resources for outpatient mental health clinics and mobile crisis teams.

Outpatient mental health clinics are the backbone of long-term mental health care for thousands of Californians. These clinics provide essential services ranging from counseling and therapy to medication management. However, many of these facilities are severely underfunded, leading to long wait times and an insufficiency in available treatment options. Increasing financial support for these clinics is crucial to ensuring timely and effective care for those in need.

In addition to strengthening outpatient care, we must bolster mobile crisis teams that are designed to deliver immediate help to individuals experiencing severe mental health crises. These teams can provide on-the-ground support, reducing the likelihood of encounters with law enforcement and ensuing trauma. Enhanced funding will allow these teams to expand their reach, improve response times, and ultimately save lives.

As California implements new CARE Court laws intended to aid those with mental illness, protecting patient rights must remain a top priority. It is critical to ensure that these laws do not infringe upon individuals' rights and that those affected by these laws have a say in their treatment plans. This includes rigorous oversight and accountability measures to protect the dignity and autonomy of all mental health patients.

The mental health infrastructure in California can only be strengthened through increased funding and protective legislation. With your support, we can advocate for these necessary changes to provide a brighter and more hopeful future for those dealing with mental health challenges.

Sign this petition to stand with us in urging lawmakers to allocate this much-needed funding for enhanced mental health services and protections in California.
