People who are on an unemployment payment such as Jobseeker or youth allowance are living on less than 50 dollars a day. With rents so high over 80 percent of that 50 dollars is reserved for keeping a roof over their and their children heads. For the few dollars left over they are having to choose between food, medication, electricity transport and clothes. 
People on unemployment payments can't rely on savings to fill the gap because changes made by the previous government mean they have to exhaust those savings before they can get a payment.
We are expecting our fellow Australians to look for work in a society where to get a job you have to have a computer, the internet, a mobile phone, decent clothes and shoes, a car, showers to keep clean, an address and money to get to job interviews and we put them on a payment where they can't afford any of that.
Our treasurer and prime minister are telling us Australia can't afford to  increase unemployment payments. But we can afford 20 billion dollars a year in tax cuts for people who have more money than they know what to do with. We can afford to give America hundreds of billions for 8 submarines which we won't even get till 2055. We can afford a $181 a day allowance for federal parliamentarians to eat.
The treasurer and prime minister are saying its about priorities. Sign this petition and tell them you think they have got their priorities wrong. 
That the priority should be a welfare safety net that is not full of holes. That pays people enough to live rather than not enough to even survive. Show them by signing that you think the priority should be ensuring struggling Australians have enough money to get a job and enough money to feed themselves and their children while they are looking for that job.
