Increase Housing Affordability in Los Angeles and Los Angeles County

Increase Housing Affordability in Los Angeles and Los Angeles County
The Issue
My name is William Harris Jr., a resident of Los Angeles, working six to seven days a week between two jobs. This grueling schedule is not only affecting me Financially but also socially, mentally and sadly nutritionally. I am part of the working class, yet I find myself struggling to pursue my passions due to the overwhelming pressure and toxicity brought about by the surrounding effects of the housing affordability crisis in our city & surrounding county. And I know that I am not alone.
Los Angeles has been grappling with this issue for years now. The high cost of housing has pushed many residents away from the Golden State and others into financial instability, with some even facing homelessness. It's not just individuals who are suffering; our environment is also paying the price as urban sprawl continues unchecked.
According to a 2019 report from UCLA's Luskin School of Public Affairs, more than half a million people in LA County spend over 90% of their income on rent (source: UCLA). This situation is unsustainable and detrimental to both our community's health and its future.
We need effective, realistic, and permanent solutions to increase housing affordability across Los Angeles City and County. We must end this crisis that greatly affects so many lives including infants on multiple levels - from personal health to environmental impact.
By signing this petition, you're calling upon local government officials to prioritize affordable housing initiatives that will provide relief for tens of thousands like me who are struggling under the weight of this crisis. Let us stand together for an equitable future where everyone can afford a place they call home in LA.
