Increase Green Spaces in Low-Income Communities of Los Angeles

Increase Green Spaces in Low-Income Communities of Los Angeles
The Issue
Our family, like many others in low-income communities of Los Angeles, suffers from health disparities due to poor environmental conditions. The lack of green spaces contributes significantly to these issues. Green spaces not only provide a place for physical activity but also improve mental health and foster community connections.
According to the American Public Health Association, access to green spaces can reduce stress levels, improve mood, and enhance mental wellbeing. Furthermore, neighborhoods with more greenery have lower rates of crime and violence (American Public Health Association).
In addition to health benefits, establishing more green areas can also uplift the socioeconomic status of our communities. A study by the University of Washington found that urban neighborhoods with mature trees can increase property values by 2-10% (University of Washington).
However, these benefits are not equally distributed across our city. Low-income communities often lack access to quality public parks or any form of natural environment.
Therefore we call on local authorities in Los Angeles to address this disparity by increasing investment in creating and maintaining green spaces within low-income neighborhoods. This is a crucial step towards improving both the physical health and economic standing of our most vulnerable citizens.
Please sign this petition if you believe everyone deserves equal access to nature's benefits regardless their income level.
