Increase Education and Awareness to Prevent Wildfires

Increase Education and Awareness to Prevent Wildfires
The Issue
My name is Mylinh Eloed and as a high school student I've witnessed the devastating impact of wildfires on our communities and loved ones. The increasing frequency and severity of these disasters demand immediate attention from my generation and beyond.
According to the World Wildlife Fund (WWF), nearly 90% of wildfires are caused by human activities. This alarming statistic highlights the urgent need for enhanced education and awareness about wildfire prevention, particularly in communities affected by the PALI, EATON, and ALTADENA.
The 2025 Los Angeles wildfires have left a trail of destruction, with over 16,200 structures damaged or destroyed in the Palisades and Eaton fires, according to the California Department of Forestry and Fire Protection.
As a student, I'm concerned about the impact of wildfires on our environment, wildlife, and local communities. That's why I'm calling on my peers, educators, and leaders to join me in demanding increased support for wildfire prevention initiatives.
While the Smokey Bear campaign has made notable strides in promoting prevention, current wildfire rates indicate that more needs to be done. We require a comprehensive, global campaign to educate communities about wildfire prevention and mitigation strategies.
I believe it's essential to incorporate wildfire prevention education into our school curriculum. By empowering young people with knowledge and awareness, we can inspire a new generation of leaders to take action against wildfires.
The time to act is now. We owe it to ourselves, future generations, our environment, and the diverse species that inhabit our forests. I urge local communities, organizations, and global entities to prioritize wildfire prevention education.
Let's unite to reduce the threat of wildfires. Sign this petition to demand increased support for wildfire prevention initiatives and education in our schools. Together, we can create a safer, more sustainable future.
