The Issue

This petition begins with a personal plea. A associate, a successful entrepreneur, pays a meagre £4 per week for each of his children, which pales in comparison to his weekly income of £5000. There's something deeply unfair about this.

Families have children together and agree to care for them together at the beginning, yet when they split the residing parent is the one left with the bills and the costs of the children, when the other parent is free to pay as little as possible.

The current regulations for child support payments are not keeping in line with the financial abilities of the paying parents. This raises the question: Are our children getting the financial support they rightfully deserve?

Around 1.3 million children in the UK live in single-parent households where the non-residential parent is paying child support. However, as per the UK Parliamentary Briefing Paper 2018/0351, the median weekly payment for one child is merely £33. In many instances, this is a mere fraction of the non-residential parent's income.

An increase in child support payments is pivotal to offset the cost of raising children for the residential parent. This is not just about my associate, and his children. It's about every child who deserves better, more proportional support from both parents. Therefore, we are calling for a reform in the way child support payments are calculated, ensuring they directly correlate to the paying parent's income. Higher earning parents must contribute more, reflecting the true costs of raising a child.

Please sign this petition, let’s foster change and ensure that our children receive the full support they rightly deserve.
