Increase bus frequency for Route 411 on nights, weekends and public holidays
The issue
One of the major inconveniences of living west of the Salisbury Highway is the hourly frequency of the Route 411 bus that travels between Mawson Lakes and Salisbury Interchange. Such infrequent service makes it difficult for residents and visitors to plan their weekends effectively, hindering our ability to attend social events, reach work, or simply explore the area conveniently.
The Route 411 bus route is essential for many who live in Parafield Gardens, Paralowie and Burton, yet its current night and weekend schedule fails to meet the demands of modern life. During the week, this service operates at frequencies of every 30 minutes during the day, and reduces to every 10 minutes during peak hours. This makes it a very attractive and viable service to use, whether, commuting, shopping, accessing entertainment.
With South Australia's growing focus on environmentally friendly transportation and reducing car dependency, it becomes essential to address these public transportation gaps. A more frequent service aligns with these goals by promoting the use of public transport, reducing the carbon footprint, and enhancing the quality of life for residents.
Consider these alternatives: increasing the frequency of the Route 411 bus to every 30 minutes on weekends and public holidays. Such changes would encourage more people to take public transport, reduce road congestion, and provide greater convenience to the community. Currently, the fear of missing the bus only to have to wait a full hour, stifles the use of this as an alternative to a car, or run the risk of an expensive taxi/uber ride or a long walk home.
Inner suburbs that have as frequent bus services that have the same frequencies as the 411, will see 30-minute frequencies at night, on weekends and public holidays, yet as an outer suburb, we drop to hourly services at 8pm weeknights, and all weekend.
The improvements made to the timetable in May are a wonderful start with the extended hours, but this is a glaring omission in that revamp.
We urge Adelaide Metro and relevant government bodies to acknowledge these concerns and take action. Implementing these constructive changes will demonstrate a commitment to sustainable living and the welfare of South Australia's citizens.
