Increase Allowed Number of Chickens Per Property From Six to Ten

Increase Allowed Number of Chickens Per Property From Six to Ten
The Issue
As a family deeply devoted to farm-fresh eggs, we understand firsthand the value that having our own chicken coop brings. However, the current limit of six chickens per lot severely restricts our ability to fully utilize the potential of our coop. Our coop, big enough for six chickens, can comfortably accommodate up to ten chickens with only minimal additional resources.
Increasing the limit would enhance our egg production during slower months from 2-3 eggs per day to 4-6, and during warmer months from 3-5 to 6-10. This increase would not only be of benefit to us, but to our surrounding community. In a time where access to local, fresh food sources is increasingly important, this small change could deliver big dividends.
Moreover, an academic study shows that small-scale poultry production can be environmentally sustainable, providing savings on waste disposal and contributing to food security (Pretty J., Toulmin C., Williams S., 2011). As such, increasing the authorized number of chickens per lot to ten would not just improve egg yields, but also promote more sustainable living.
For the benefit of our family, our community, and the environment, we implore the relevant authorities to increase the limit of chickens allowed per property from six to ten. Stand with us today in changing the limit. Sign the petition.
