Increase Actions to Combat Car Thefts and Vandalism in Our Neighborhood

The Issue

My name is Shannon Broughton and my story starts with a loss and ends with a plea for justice. Not so long ago, my parked vehicle was hit and, to add to the wound, it was declared a total loss. As if the universe was playing a cruel joke, just this week someone stole all four tires from the rental car I depended on to get to work. Enough is enough. Car thefts and vandalism in our neighborhood have become a real threat, leaving us feeling vulnerable in our own homes.

Our neighborhood is a place that should be safer, and one where our property is respected, and where criminals are held accountable. Yet, year after year, we have been witnessing increasing numbers of car thefts and vandalism cases that go unpunished, turning our peaceful community into a haven for criminals.

Without proper measures, this problem will escalate. In the United States, it is estimated that a motor vehicle is stolen every 40.8 seconds, and most of these cases are due to unlocked vehicles or keys left in cars (source: FBI 2017 Crime Statistics). We must be proactive and preventative measures must be put in place, starting by an improved neighborhood watch and an increase in local police patrols.

We need your help to convey our concerns to the local authorities. Our community deserves to live without fear of falling prey to the next vandalism act. We will not stand silent while we watch our neighborhood fall under this car theft epidemic.

Please, sign this petition and join us in our fight for a safer neighborhood for us all.
