Fair Lawn BOE Meeting Today, September 24: Help Make JAHM Education a Reality — Get Involved!
As antisemitism remains at historically elevated levels across the United States, the reason we started this petition one year ago has become even more urgent.
According to recently released FBI data, 1,528 anti-Jewish hate-crime incidents were reported nationwide in 2025, accounting for 63% of all reported religion-based hate crimes. Here in New Jersey, antisemitic incidents also remain at historically high levels—including incidents affecting our K–12 schools.
This is exactly why education matters.
On October 30, 2025, the Fair Lawn Board of Education voted to recognize Jewish American Heritage Month every May. That was an important achievement for our community. But recognition must be followed by meaningful implementation.
Jewish American Heritage Month is an opportunity for our children to learn not only about antisemitism and the Holocaust, but also about the more than 350 years of Jewish American history, culture, achievements and contributions to the United States.
Children are not born knowing hatred. Education can help prevent stereotypes and prejudice before they take root.
As we begin another school year, we respectfully ask Fair Lawn Public Schools to follow through on the October 30, 2025 BOE decision and meaningfully incorporate Jewish American Heritage Month into our schools each May.
Our petition will remain active until that goal is achieved.
