ONE YEAR LATER: OUR JOURNEY CONTINUES JAHM Petition Stays Active Until the Final Goal Is Met!
One year ago today, on September 18, 2025, on behalf of many parents, I started this petition asking Fair Lawn Public Schools to recognize and incorporate Jewish American Heritage Month (JAHM) into our schools.
What began as an idea has grown into a community effort supported by hundreds of people.
On October 30, 2025, the Fair Lawn Board of Education took an important step by voting to recognize Jewish Heritage Month in May.
Goal #1 — Recognition: ACHIEVED ✅
But our petition has always had a second goal:
Goal #2 — Meaningful integration of Jewish American heritage, history, culture and contributions into our students’ education.
The New Jersey Department of Education provides resources specifically for “Integrating Jewish American History into K–12 Social Studies.”
Recognition was an important beginning. Now, as the 2026–2027 school year is underway, we continue to follow the district’s progress toward meaningful implementation.
Thank you to every person who has supported this effort over the past year. What started with one voice has become hundreds of voices standing behind Jewish American heritage education.
One year later, the journey continues.

This petition will stay active until our final goal is achieved: Incorporate Jewish American Heritage Month (May) into Fair Lawn Schools' Curriculum in accordance with 2020 Diversity & Inclusion Legislation 18A:35-4.36a and in compliance with NJ DOE: “It’s more than a month; it’s about integrating Jewish American Heritage Month (May) into K–12 Social Studies.”
