Incorporate GLE4O9 Course into Ontario's Adult Learning High School Curriculum
The Issue
I was a senior in high school when I took the GLE4O9 course. Unfortunately, I failed and now, I'm facing the challenges of life without the necessary skills this crucial course provides. This course's omission from the curriculum in my post-secondary journey left me struggling, which is why I believe, honestly and passionately, that this change is essential.
The GLE4O9 course or "Advanced Learning Strategies: Skills for Success after Secondary School," is a critical transition tool that especially equips disabled students with strategies and skills they need to succeed in post-secondary education, the workplace, and adult life. The course content includes goal setting, health management, and effective use of digital technology, amongst others - skills that are vital in the current socio-economic milieu (Ontario Ministry of Education, 2016).
Despite its importance, it hasn't been given due priority in the curriculum for adult learners in Ontario. This absence could leave many adult learners unprepared for the practical complexities of life beyond school. As such, it is essential to incorporate it into the high school curriculum for adult learning in Ontario to increase the chances of success and independence for these learners, even during the summer semester.
Each of us has the right to learn and gain the necessary skills to flourish in life. Leaving essential courses like GLE4O9 out of the curriculum robs us of this inalienable right. I'm starting this petition because I have 3 mental disabilities myself, so let's ensure that no student faces the same hurdles that I did because of a curriculum oversight.
I ask you to sign this petition to support our call for the inclusion of GLE4O9 in Ontario's adult learning high school curriculum. Your signature can help shape an educational system that truly prepares us for the demands of adult life. Sign and make a real difference today!
