Include the Word "Boop" in Major English Dictionaries

The Issue

I am an animal lover, and for as long as I can remember, there's been a special word that encapsulates the magical interaction of an animal reaching up with its snout to touch my hand - "boop". This term, while widely recognized and used in our culture, especially in online discourse, is not officially recognized as a word. I share the love of boop and boops with an online community of like-minded animal lovers. Our friend, Mouse, recently passed away and his biggest wish was for the word "boop" to be added to dictionaries as an actual word.

The addition of this term would not only honor our friend's memory but also acknowledge the evolving nature of language. The Oxford English Dictionary adds approximately 1,000 new entries each year (OED), reflecting changes in how we communicate. It is time that "boop", a term so dear to many people who share beautiful moments with animals, gets its rightful place among these entries.

We are asking Webster's New World Dictionary, Merriam-Webster Dictionary, Oxford English Dictionary, Dictionary.com and Cambridge Dictionary to consider adding this culturally significant term into their lexicons. By doing so they would be acknowledging its widespread use and giving it validity within our language.

Please sign this petition if you believe that words like 'boop' deserve recognition in our dictionaries. Let us enrich our language by recognizing words born out of love for animals and shared human experiences.
