I am a student in Hazlet, NJ, and my service dog is an integral part of my life. Not only does my dog provide me with essential support and assistance, but it also brings joy to our school community. However, when it comes to our yearbook photos, my service dog is left out.

Service dogs play a crucial role for many individuals with disabilities. According to the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA), they are legally recognized for their importance and the vital services they provide. Despite this recognition at a national level, local institutions like schools often overlook their significance. These animals are not just pets; they're lifelines for their handlers and deserve recognition as such.By including service dogs in yearbook photos alongside their handlers, we can raise awareness about the essential role these animals play while fostering inclusivity within our school environment.
