Include Parental Alienation Awareness in April's Child Abuse Prevention Month

The Issue

I am a survivor of over twenty years of abuse and parental alienation, a secretive form of emotional child abuse that often goes unnoticed due to lack of awareness. My first-born son and I have suffered immensely from this hidden epidemic. Had there been proactive awareness or intervention to address this, our lives could have been significantly different.

Parental Alienation (PA) is an urgent issue affecting numerous families across the globe and inflicting immeasurable pain on both parents and children. It is characterized by one parent's persistent effort to distance their child from the other parent, causing the child to reject that parent based on a false belief fostered by the alienating parent. This form of psychological manipulation can have devastating consequences for the child's emotional well-being and long-term development.

Currently, April 8th is recognized as Custodial Interference Awareness Day. However, April 25th remains an unmarked day in our community. We propose to dedicate this day to raising awareness about Parental Alienation on a local level, as part of April's Child Abuse Prevention Month. This initiative aligns with international recognition of the issue, evident in the solidarity shown by Bermuda, Canada plus 17 other states that acknowledge Parental Alienation.

The key to combatting Parental Alienation is increasing understanding and visibility. By officially recognizing this day, we can raise awareness, foster education and advocacy around this sensitive topic, effectively supporting families coping with Parental Alienation.

Together, we can help ensure that no individual, family, or child endures the suffering of Parental Alienation in silence. Our children need us, and it's time we reclaim their lives and ours. Make a stand by signing this petition to include Parental Alienation Awareness in April's Child Abuse Prevention Month. Thank you.
