Include Ontario's Registered Social Service Workers Who Provide Psychotherapy in Bill C59

The Issue

Registered Social Service Workers in Ontario can engage in the controlled act of psychotherapy, as permitted by the Ontario College of Social Workers and Social Service Workers (OCSWSSW), provided that competency has been met. However, they continue to face ongoing uncertainty and conflict with regards to their inclusion in tax exemption as per Bill C59. This not only affects their livelihood but also places significant financial strain on clients, who must bear the weight of this tax for this crucial service.

RSSWs stand as the only profession that has not been recognised and included in this bill. The lives and wellbeing of their clients and of themselves are being disrupted due to this tax exclusion, leading to increased stress and confusion. RSSWs are not asking for a privilege, they are asking for fairness.

As professionals dedicated to the health and wellbeing of Ontarians, they urge the responsible parties to include Registered Social Service Workers in the Tax Exemption clause of Bill C59. It is not only a response that acknowledges their dedication and professionalism but is truly in the best interest of their clients and the province at large.

Please give your support to this cause, sign this petition to demand that Ontario's Registered Social Service Workers who provide psychotherapy are included in Bill C59's tax exemption structure. Your signature can drive change and uphold justice in our healthcare system.
