Include Motorsports in the Olympic Games

The Issue

As a passionate motorsports spectator, I believe it's high time we recognize the immense athleticism, precision, and endurance required for this sport at a higher level. Despite misconceptions, motorsports drivers are some of the best conditioned athletes in the world.

Comprehensive studies, such as the one conducted by the ESPN Sport Science team, have demonstrated this fact, highlighting that the physical strain experienced by motorsports drivers often exceeds that of athletes from other sports traditionally acknowledged for their physical demands (ESPN Sport Science, 2018).

During a race, drivers frequently endure heart rates averaging around 160 beats per minute over a sustained period, a feat similar to that of marathon runners. Furthermore, they experience excessive gravitational forces typically seen in fighter pilots while maneuvering their vehicles, requiring remarkable muscular strength and control.

Therefore, it is simply unjust that such a rigorous and demanding sport remains unacknowledged in a global platform that celebrates human athleticism and endurance – The Olympic Games. By including motorsports in the Olympics, we not only acknowledge the tireless dedication and immense physical strength of the drivers but also invite millions of motorsports enthusiasts into the Olympic family, thereby enhancing the inclusivity and diversity of the Games.

Please sign this petition in the spirit of sporting recognition, inclusivity, and fair play. Your signature will be a step closer to seeing Motorsports on the Olympic podium.
