The Issue

As a resident in the Belvidere Park and Woodcrest neighborhoods, I am petitioning the Raleigh City Council to amend the City of Raleigh’s draft “Ordinance to Address Noise from Amplified Sound at Commercial Establishments and to Impose Specific Decibel Limits on Those Operations” to include restrictions on the distance from which amplified music can be heard. The current draft, which only limits the decibels at which sound can be amplified, does not sufficiently protect residents in these neighborhoods from the noise originating from Bowstring Brewyard and Pizza. Residents at numerous places in the neighborhood can hear the music inside their homes - up to a mile away from Bowstring.

Should the current draft of the Sound Ordinance pass, it would not require efforts to mitigate the noise experienced in our neighborhood, nor leave any recourse for the residents should they continue to hear music from their homes as long as the decibel requirements of the ordinance were met.

The draft ordnance is up for a council vote on Oct 21, 2025.
