Include Afro-Latinos and Stop Gaslighting Us, Univision and Telemundo!

The Issue

NINE YEARS AGO, I began Proyecto Más Color in an effort to urge Univision and Telemundo to finally start including Afro-Latinx people in their novelas in the exact same light that they put lighter skinned, Mestizo Latinos.

One attempt was made to shut me up, a novela called Celia, which was a biopic of the late Celia Cruz. It was a pathetic effort because the novela was mainly about the "White Latina" character, and not the star herself, Jeimy Osorio, and Jeimy did not represent Celia well because Celia was of much darker complexion than Jeimy.

Since that one instance 9 years ago, there has been absolutely no other novelas (soap operas) featuring Afro-Latinx people in any way whatsoever.

You might see a Black Latino in a commercial, but they don't overtly speak Spanish.

Let's face it, Latino culture is racist. The phrase, "mejora la raza," has poisoned generations of Latinos who believe that it's okay to be Anti-Black.

I've had enough. It's time to take Univision and Telemundo to the courts and sue them for racial discrimination against Afro-Latinos as a method of oppression and a violation of human rights. Because EVERYONE DESERVES TO BE SEEN, no matter how Black they are.

The effect of my channel, Proyecto Más Color, has been massive on YouTube because Afro-Latinx people have managed to copy and appropriate this concept in their favor. The light skinned Afro-Latinos, of course.

Enough with the colorism, the racism, and the concept of Eugenics in the Latinx community by discouraging people from procreating with Black people with the phrase, "Mejora la Raza." It's just plain racist.

It's sad that still no progress has been made in a decade since I exposed Latin America's dirty little secret of Anti-Blackness. It's time to make a change. You with me?
