Viscous Dog Attacks & Kills In PetSmart!
It is with much sadness and heartbreak that I create this post but if my tragedy can prevent another, than it will not be in vain. On January 5th, my 20 year old son took our 2.5lbs Yorkie, Mister Big, into what we deemed a safe, loving and animal friendly environment. They ventured into Petsmart in Conyers, Ga., in order to pick up some treats. I would have never imagined that this would be the last time I see my dog. After my son being in the store for approximately 10 minutes, a full grown adult Pit Bull viscously attacked and mauled my dog to his unfortunate death. This was done in an instance without warning or any provoking from either dog. Several people jumped on the Pit Bull and did everything in their power to pry my dog from the viscous jaws of death that Pit Bulls are known for. I am posting this in hopes that this post will go viral and something is done. There is no way that large breed dogs, especially ones that are known for attacks like this should be able to encounter easy “Prey” such as a small breed dogs. There should be rules (additional rules) to protect all animals!
I am petitioning PetSmart on a corporate level to make sure that no other family or dog owner has to go through the trauma that me and my family are now experiencing. PetSmart should separate large and small breeds sections in the store or require muzzles for viscous breed dogs and/or large breed dogs, if they are going to freely allow them to mingle amongst our smaller pets and more less children. The owner was present and unable to restrain the dog. What if this had been a child? What if the dog changed it’s focus to my son? How would you feel? As of this post, the District Manager called to offer his condolences. He stated he would discuss my concerns with others. I have not heard anyone one from PetSmart, Inc., to even acknowledge the incident. No one can change what has happened. I know I can’t get Mister Big back - I’ve accepted that fact. However, the pain is surreal. It is my sincerest hope that PetSmart develops a policy that is small breed friendly.
This petition is not an effort to bash or ban Pit Bulls. I do love all dogs. This is just an effort to take corrective action against a lack of structure/support for small breed animals in stores that are supposed to be friendly for all. If you are the owner of a small breed pet or have any form of empathy for the victims of large breed dog attacks, please sign the petition.
