If you have ever had the pleasure of knowing Haley Michaela Brooks, then you already know how incredibly lucky you are. Our lives drastically changed on Sunday August 21, 2022, when we learned that my daughter, our very loved family, and friend, was instantly killed in a tragic car accident on North Grange Avenue.

There are multiple spots along this road where the white edge line is completely eroded and broken off, left with jagged edges. Haley was traveling North down Grange towards Waterstreet Road when her vehicle veered off the side of the deteriorated and broken road. Once off the road there is a significant drop to a runoff ditch. In Haley’s struggle to gain control of her vehicle she instinctively turned the wheel to get herself back up on the road. With front wheel drive her car was thrown into oncoming traffic, where she then collided with another vehicle. Her car was left pinned against a tree and was instantly engulfed with flames. A nearby resident put all his heroic effort and energy into trying to cut down the tree that prevented the driver’s side door from being able to open. He risked his own life trying to save Haley and is a true hero. It has been requested several times by the residents who live on North Grange to fix this road, but Worcester Township has set it aside, putting more civilians at risk every day.

Haley was just 23 years old, and a new mother to her precious baby, Aliya, when this tragedy struck. Aliya was only 9 months old when she lost her mom and will never get to know what a truly amazing mother she is. Haley is a lifelong local resident and graduated from Methacton High School Class of 2017. She was also set to finish her senior year at Bloomsburg College, but never had the chance.

This road failed my daughter. It is severely damaged, and nothing has been done to remedy the treacherous road or warn drivers of the danger. The problem is far worse than what drivers can see. Standing on the side of the road you can clearly see a sinkhole forming directly under the dip that sent Haley off the road. The road is so deteriorated that the asphalt can be flexibly moved up and down by hand. The speed limit is only 25 mph yet cars, trucks, school buses and even police have been witnessed flying at astronomical speeds down this hill. Within just 30 minutes of standing out at her memorial on one single day we’ve seen a high schooler with a backpack, a cross country runner, and a bicyclist traveling down this road. There is no side shoulder for these people to move over onto and avoid erratic drivers. Traveling down this road is the only way to access the area of Evansburg State Park off Waterstreet Road. It is inevitable that there are and will continue to be civilians walking, hiking, or biking this road.

North Grange Ave is a dividing line between Skippack and Worcester Townships and extends into Lower Providence Township, but this area of the road is patrolled by the Pennsylvania State Police. Everything is located within Evansburg State Park. I have continuously reached out to the State Police, Skippack, and Worcester Townships since the day of the accident over eight months ago with no resolutions. I am so disheartened and frustrated to see that nothing has been done to remedy this situation. One of Haley’s closest friends has put her own time, energy, and care into placing reflectors in several broken sections of the road in hopes of saving future lives. All the while grieving over Haleys life that we will never be able to get back. She shouldn’t have to feel like this is her responsibility. My daughter’s life is enough motivation that work should actively be underway to fix this road. I do know Haley is and always will be a guardian angel for the rest of us driving down this road, but still action must be promptly taken. I am fully aware everything is financially powered, but there is power in numbers. With these signatures we can make a difference. We have come up with several possible ways to make N. Grange Road a safe way to travel:

-Repave the areas of road where the white lines are missing and/or damaged

-Add a guardrail

-Increase Speed traps monitored by State Police or Park Rangers

-Turn the Intersection of Mill Rd & N. Grange into a 3 way stop sign

-Replace speed limit signs that displays driver’s speeds, that were oddly removed just days after her accident

-Add speed bumps to the road

-Cut down the huge dead trees hanging over the road (especially after the recent fatal accident that happened in Collegeville involving a car and a dead, fallen tree)

As a mother I am completely and utterly frustrated to see that nothing has been done to remedy the situation after our constant pleas. Although my world will always be shattered, I will not stand by another minute and let this be ignored. Haley deserves to still be on this earth thriving with her sweet baby girl, and at the very least her death will have purpose. This accident has changed our community forever and will never be forgotten. Once we get a substantial number of signatures, we plan to go to a Worcester Township board meeting and present this problem there for immediate action. If you are also concerned about this road, please reach out to us and Worcester Township, and sign this petition in honor of Haley Michaela Brooks. Our Angel.
