To Mayor Karen Bass, the Hollywood Chamber of Commerce, the Hollywood Historic Trust, and the appropriate officials of the City of Los Angeles:

On August 25, 2026, the world lost Dolly Parton — an artist, songwriter, actress, philanthropist and cultural icon whose work touched generations of people.

Today, as fans gather at Dolly Parton’s Hollywood Walk of Fame star to mourn her passing and leave flowers in her memory, photographs and video show a star that is visibly cracked and deteriorating.

That is not how Los Angeles should honor Dolly Parton.

The Hollywood Walk of Fame is one of this city’s most recognizable cultural landmarks, and Dolly Parton’s star now serves as an impromptu public memorial for thousands of people who loved her.

We respectfully request that the City of Los Angeles, the Hollywood Chamber of Commerce and the Hollywood Historic Trust coordinate the immediate inspection, restoration and preservation of Dolly Parton’s Hollywood Walk of Fame star, while treating the flowers and memorials being left by fans with care and respect.

Dolly Parton spent her life giving — through her music, her extraordinary philanthropy, her support of children’s literacy and the countless moments of joy she gave to people around the world.
