Who is Marina Ovsyannikova?
Marina Ovsyannikova held up a placard to the camera on the main news program of Russian state television on March 14, 2022: "Stop the war. Don't believe the propaganda. Here you are being lied to."
She kept jumping into the picture with this poster.
That's why she was arrested and put on trial. At the moment she is free again. She is "hiding" with friends. According to her lawyer, she still faces criminal proceedings and a long prison sentence.
She has refused the asylum offered to her by France's President Macron. She said she wants to continue fighting for change in Russia. She hopes that her protest will not be in vain and that the Russian people will open their eyes and question war propaganda more closely.
What is the threat to Marina Ovsyannikova?
In Russia - after the outbreak of the war against Ukraine - new laws were passed that now allow Putin to throw his critics into prison for up to 15 years.
For Marina Ovsyannikova this would mean that she will not see her two children for up to 15 years. Marina Ovsyannikova would spend much of her life in prison.
Why is it so important that people like Marina exist?
In recent days, brave people have repeatedly demonstrated against the Russian war of aggression in Ukraine. This is extremely important. Resistance to this war must grow, especially among the people of Russia. The age of world wars must be over. We want to live in peace with our neighbors in the 21st century.
Over 14,000 demonstrators have been arrested so far!
We demand the release of all those who are still in custody and the immediate cessation of persecution of all demonstrators against the war in Ukraine. Free expression of opinion must not become a serious crime in Russia either.
Send a signal to Moscow!
We want to send a signal to the courageous people in Russia through our solidarity. So that they do not despair in difficult times.
"Be assured, our solidarity will not be limited to clicking LIKE in social media. We will not limit ourselves to applauding. We will not forget you and will push for your release for as long as it will take."

We demand an immediate end to the prosecution of Marina Ovsyannikova and the immediate release of more than 14,000 Russian protesters. None of them should be dragged to court. No one should end up in prison.
PS: I am a writer and filmmaker and I am putting this petition online because I myself have been the victim of an attack on freedom of expression over the last five years. I am currently working on a documentary film about cases of repression around the world.
