Improve Waste Management in Pasig City

Improve Waste Management in Pasig City
The Issue
Walking through our beautiful city of Pasig, I am saddened by the sight of trash lining the streets, especially in Pasig Palengke and along the Pasig River. This lingering waste problem threatens our health, environment, and the city's image.
It is deeply personal to me because I remember Pasig as a clean and welcoming environment. Our once clean market and river reflect the vibrancy and commitment towards cleanliness that should be nurtured and preserved. Recognizing that our waste problem only gets worse by the day, urgent measures for improvement are needed now more than ever.
Based on a 2019 Environmental Management Bureau report, over 41,000 tons of waste is generated daily in the Philippines, 9,212 tons of which is from Metro Manila, where Pasig City is located ("Solid Waste Management in the Philippines", 2019). The increasing amount of waste is intensifying the city's challenge in managing solid waste products.
Responsible waste management isn't just the work of the local government alone – it's everyone's responsibility. However, the local government plays an essential role in spearheading initiatives and implementing mechanisms to manage this problem.
We urge the local government, more specifically, the City Environment and Natural Resources Office of Pasig City (CENRO), to revise existing waste management policies. Steps should include reinforcing regular and proper waste collection, implementing stricter anti-littering laws, and promoting community awareness and participation in waste segregation and recycling.
By signing this petition, you are taking a stand against improper waste management and giving Pasig City a chance at a cleaner, healthier, and safer future. Let's work together to restore the pride of Pasig. Sign the petition now.
