Improve Veterans' Mental Health Services and Benefits

Improve Veterans' Mental Health Services and Benefits
The Issue
Growing up in a family where serving in the military is not only a duty but a cherished tradition, I have witnessed the tremendous sacrifices made by countless brave souls. September 11, 2001, to August 26, 2021 marked the Global War on Terrorism - an infamous chapter often referred to as the "forever war." Many of my friends and family heeded the call to serve our great nation, some paid the ultimate price for the freedom we cherish today.
I watched, in pride and hope, as my cousin joined the armed forces, returning as an improved citizen emblazoned with dedication and honor. My grandfather, a proud US Marine Veteran, wore his USMC Veteran hat every day. The culture of service is deeply rooted in my family, one that I embraced by serving in the military for eight years.
Now, having navigated the complexities of life after service, I find myself mired in a cycle of misdiagnosis and inadequate support that has left me battling on every front—social, economic, professional, and personal. For three years, I have been filling my original claims for disability, facing misdiagnoses repeatedly, and struggling to receive the health benefits and the compensation that I rightfully deserve.
This is not just my story—it is the untold hardship of many veterans who have sacrificed much, only to return home to fight a different kind of battle. When veterans are denied timely, accurate medical decisions and benefits, they suffer needlessly. The impact of such neglect stretches across every facet of their lives, often resulting in devastating loss.
The dedication of our servicemen and women must be matched by a commitment to their well-being. I urge the Department of Veterans Affairs, and other decision makers to take immediate steps to reform the processes involved with mental health evaluations and claims processes. To ensure that all veterans receive the timely, accurate care they need, we demand all service members original claims to be developed and decided during service. Meaningful action required by this coming remembrance day of August 26, 2026.
By signing this petition, you are taking a stand for the heroes who have stood strong for our nation. Help ensure they are met with the support and care befitting their service and sacrifice.
Join me in advocating for real, impactful change for those who were damaged when giving their all as well as their families. Sign this petition to improve mental health services and benefits for veterans.
