Improve Tweed-New Haven Airport in a well considered way. Support the EA.
The Issue
Tweed-New Haven Airport has been a highly underutilized airport for many decades. Limiting its ability to properly serve the Greater New Haven Region has been its current runway length of 5,600 feet and the current West-side passenger Terminal. The 2021 HVN Airport Master Plan proposes to increase the runway length to 6,635 feet and rebuild a new passenger terminal on the East-side of the airport . Each of these projects is detailed in the Airport Master Plan and as such, both projects are proposed on current airport property. There is no requirement to take homes. These two projects do not entail a “massive” expansion whatsoever. While it is true that these projects can effect the environment, we believe that the Environmental Assessment (A Federally Mandated Process) and the related vetting of such by numerous expert federal, state and local agencies is sufficient to protect the environmental, social and economic needs of the region. We believe the Environmental Assessment (EA) to represent the best needs of all regional stakeholders to Tweed-New Haven Airport.
